Where can I buy medicines?

To buy medicines that require a prescription, like blood pressure medication and antibiotics, you will need to get a prescription from a doctor. You can then take the prescription to a pharmacy (Apotheke), where you can get the medication, which is usually free or inexpensive. Some pharmacies accept Ukrainian prescriptions written in English, but the statutory health insurance (gesetzliche Krankenversicherung,GKV) does not cover these and you will have to pay for them yourself.

You can buy medicines that do not require a doctor’s prescription, such as pain relievers and salve for wounds, at a pharmacy and in some cases at a supermarket or drug store; you will have to pay for them yourself.
